Bengaluru, Apr 19 (UNI) The Congress on late Tuesday night announced candidates for seven more seats including Hubballi-Dharwad Central from where former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will contest from BJP's Mahesh Tenginkai in the May 10 assembly election in Karnataka.

Shettar had joined the Congress after the BJP denied him a ticket to contest from the same seat which had won six times since 1994.

The party also announced the candidature of Mohammad Yousuf Savanur to take on Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from Shiggaon constituency. It is yet to announce candidates for eight more seats including Pulikeshinagar constituency in Bengaluru Urban District.

As expected, the Congress denied ticket to sitting MLA S Ramappa from Harihar and gave it to Nandagavi Srinivas.

Surprisingly, another sitting MLA DS Hoolageri was given the ticket from Lingasugur seat, though anti-inumbency factor faced him.

In Hubballi-Dharwad West, the party decided to field former mayor Deepak Chinchore while overlooking the claim of former MLC Mohan Limbikayi, who had joined the party from the BJP a month ago.

The Congress has fielded new entrant HD Thammaiah in Chikkamagaluru, the bastion of BJP national general secretary CT Ravi. MA Gopalaswamy has been fielded from Shravanabelagola.
